METARReport type: METAR

🔍 How to read it

METAR = routine report, SPECI = special report triggered by significant change. COR = corrected report replacing a previous erroneous one. AUTO = fully automated (no human review). NIL = no observation data available. The 4-letter code is the ICAO location indicator (e.g. EDDF = Frankfurt).

Common mistakes

  • Confusing ICAO codes (4 letters) with IATA codes (3 letters, e.g. FRA).
  • Forgetting that SPECI indicates a significant weather change occurred.
  • COR means a previous report was wrong and this replaces it.

Exam tip: SPECI is issued when wind, visibility, cloud, or weather changes meet criteria in ICAO Annex 3, §4.3.
