Pre-flight Action — SERA.2020 / Annex 2 §2.4
General (ICAO)
ICAO Annex 2 §2.4 Pre-flight action: PIC must gather all available information relevant to the flight.
Minimum briefing:
- Weather for departure, route, destination.
- NOTAMs.
- AIP entries for airfields.
- Fuel calculation with reserve.
- Mass and balance, performance.
- Airworthiness verification.
Europe (EASA / EU)
SERA.2020 — pre-flight action
SERA.2020 demands careful preparation. Details in Subject 030 lesson "Planning" and Subject 060 lesson "Pre-flight".
Requirements
- Pilot must be adequately informed about all relevant flight aspects.
- For VFR beyond the immediate airfield vicinity: weather briefing obligation (see Subject 050).
- Minimum fuel per NCO.OP.125: VFR day 30 min reserve, VFR night 45 min.
Who needs NO briefing
- Flights in the traffic circuit on an aerodrome require no weather briefing.
Germany (national)
In Germany additionally checkable by Aviation Supervision Officer ("Beauftragter für Luftaufsicht"):
- The aviation supervision officer is permitted to check whether a pilot has properly preplanned his flight.
