Syllabus Mapping for Subject 070 Operational Procedures
This lesson maps the PPL Monkey curriculum for Subject 070 Operational Procedures to the EASA syllabus requirements.
Legal basis
- EU Regulation 1178/2011 (Aircrew Regulation), Part-FCL Annex I.
- AMC1 FCL.215(a) Theoretical Knowledge Examination Syllabus for the PPL(A).
- EU Regulation 965/2012 (Air Operations) — Part-NCO operational framework.
- EU Regulation 923/2012 (SERA) — Standardised European Rules of the Air.
Subject 070 topics per AMC1 FCL.215(a)
The EASA PPL syllabus for 070 — Operational Procedures comprises (in essence):
| Chapter | Syllabus topics | Covered in PPL Monkey |
|---|---|---|
| 071 01 | General requirements | Pre-flight, Part-NCO overview, documents |
| 071 02 | Special operational procedures and hazards | Wind shear, microbursts, wake turbulence, volcanic ash, LVP |
| 071 03 | Emergency procedures | Engine fire on ground + in flight, cabin fire, EFATO, engine failure in cruise, ditching, forced landing procedures |
| 071 04 | Aerodrome operations | Taxi, run-up, take-off procedures, approach/landing, crosswind techniques |
| 071 05 | Flight phases | Take-off, climb, cruise, descent, approach, landing (all "Aerodrome operations" lessons) |
| 071 06 | Hazards | CO poisoning, electrical fire, bird strike/FOD, special VFR, night VFR |
| 071 07 | Carriage of dangerous goods | Dangerous goods NCO.GEN.140 |
| 071 08 | Special refuelling | Refuelling with pax |
Differences from the ATPL theory
ATPL/IR syllabus is considerably more extensive in:
- Crew Resource Management (CRM) — deeper (NCO has only basics, ATPL has whole lessons).
- Operational procedures for multi-pilot.
- Long-range operations (ETOPS, polar routes).
- MEL/CDL (Minimum Equipment List, Configuration Deviation List) details.
PPL Monkey Subject 070 covers PPL level. ATPL deepening in planned Subject 200 (Phase 2).
EASA examination
Subject 070 is examined in the PPL theory exam with typically 10-12 multiple-choice questions (varies by authority). Pass mark: 75 % correct.
Practical examination (PPL skill test)
The practical exam tests Subject 070 in:
- Pre-flight inspection (walk-around).
- Engine start / run-up.
- Take-off (normal, short field, crosswind).
- Cruise management.
- Approach (stabilised approach, crosswind).
- Emergency procedures (simulated engine failure, forced landing).
- Diversion (alternate decision).
